Giants Women vs Leigh Leopards | Match Report

Huddersfield Giants Women go 2 from 2 in the Women’s Challenge Cup Group Stage after a 36-6 win over Leigh Leopards.

The first few minutes were a great display of defence from both sides, facing no real threats.

It wasn’t until Amelia Brown got the scores ticking in the 12th minute with a cut down the right edge. Frankie Townend’s kick just fine.

Centre Ana Da Silva was able to build on the Giants’ momentum with a crash through Leigh bodies to claim the second try. The conversion attempt bounced off the posts.

Tensions brewed, frustrations grew, and Lois Naidole was shown the yellow card following retaliation.

Brown added 2 more 4-point contributions to the Giants’ tally as halftime neared. The first, was a trademark dash, with the second proving more technically impressive.

The Leopards failed to deal with a Sam Hulme kick to the corner, which allowed for the ball to bounce and get put down by the Giants’ hand. Townend on hand to provide 1 out of the possible 2 conversions in that passage.

Giants pulled up an unchallenged 20-0 lead heading back into the sheds.

Straight after kick-off, Leigh struck back through Claire Collins. Charlotte Melvin converted for the Lancastrians to pull up their only points of the game.

Brown picked up a second-half brace, with Da Silva crossing the line once more. Ellie Thompson was the choice of kicker in the final 40, with 2 out of 3 slotting through the sticks.

Katy Fisher was named our Player of the Match following a consistent and impactful shift in the forward pack.
